James A. – ” I’ve never seen her approach an activity with more energy and drive for excellence.”

DSOR has been a wonderful experience for Vanessa.  I’ve never seen her approach an activity with more energy and drive for excellence.  Thank you.  It’s been worth every penny.

John H. – “Would have never happened without the experience and confidence he’s gotten at DSRP! Thanks!!”

Amazing thing happened at The Sheepdogs concert in downtown Detroit. In the middle of one of the songs, the lead guitarist walked to the front of the stage, took off his guitar and put the strap over Andrew’s head! Andrew stepped up on stage, pulled a pick out of his pocket and asked the guitar player “What key is it in?” and he answered, “A-minor.” Andrew proceeded to jam out a little solo and apparently he was pretty good.  After the show everyone was giving him high-fives and some were asking if the whole thing hadn’t been staged.  He is one very lucky, very happy 14-year-old. Would have never happened without the experience and confidence he’s gotten at DSRP! Thanks!!

Lynn H. – “You could simply run a business, but instead you continue to go above and beyond to make every experience truly outstanding for the kids and increase their love of music.”

Jason and Sherry – Once again, you guys have outdone yourselves. It was a great time today and the bands were amazing. It was such a highlight for our son and he has been so motivated because of this event and how well everything has been going at DSRP.  As I have told you before, you have made such a difference in his life and I just want you to know how much we appreciate all that you are doing.  You could simply run a business, but instead you continue to go above and beyond to make every experience truly outstanding for the kids and increase their love of music.  He lives and breathes music now – if only I could get him to love his schoolwork as much:)

Hope your family has a wonderful holiday season.

Lynn

Mark A. – ” All she can talk about is how she misses getting up early for camp (and this is a girl who does not wake up easily!), seeing everyone, playing and singing, etc.”

Dear Jason, Sherry, and Jimmy,

I just wanted to thank each of you again for all that you have done for my daughter, giving her one of the most memorable summer experiences of her life.  All she can talk about is how she misses getting up early for camp (and this is a girl who does not wake up easily!), seeing everyone, playing and singing, etc.  She has it in her mind that she wants to join a band now, and I don’t blame her!

In addition, I was genuinely touched by how your collective efforts with these kids have so much impact.  As you can imagine, being on a bus, hotels, gigs and restaurants for four days with that crew gave me a lot of time to talk to many of the campers.  Over and over, I heard how much the camp and tour meant to them, how it made them feel special, gave them new goals, new friendships, and new confidence in themselves.  And in some cases, your efforts gave them a place to contribute back after graduating, and give them a place to go where they feel they belong.  It’s not often, unfortunately, that our work as adults provides such impact to kids who are not our own.  Your passion and commitment is truly admirable, and I know that each student on the tour has benefited from your work.

I also enjoyed meeting the other kids and the other parents on the trip.  I hope that our paths continue to cross.  Thanks again for a great experience.

Sincerely,
Mark A.

MONICA D. – “I have to say that although we travel 30 miles one way, bringing my son to the Detroit School of Rock was the best thing we ever did.”

As not only a parent but also someone who spends a lot of time in and around the music industry and musicians, it was no surprise when my son wanted to learn to play an instrument. Like any everyone trying to find a place to take their child to learn an instrument I checked out the local studios. Now days and even when I was a kid its common place to go into a studio and sit in a tiny, stuffy booth for 30 minutes to an hour, one on one with an instructor to only get a sheet of music to practice on your own for the next week. As a parent who has a child who needs more interaction and stimulation, and also aspires to be a professional musician or working in the music industry in some aspect I felt a road block and a mundane since of going nowhere.

I saw an advertisement on TV for The Detroit School of Rock and Pop Music, “Stop practicing… Start Performing”. I immediately pulled up their website to see all that the school offered: Private lessons, Placing you together in a band, staging, lighting, recording studio and recording classes… Everything we were looking for, for the SAME price as the redundant, going no where private classes we had been enduring! It was a no brainer.

I have to say that although we travel 30 miles one way, bringing my son to the Detroit School of Rock was the best thing we ever did. His self esteem has rising 150%, he looks forward to band practice and loves sharing that fact with other people. The atmosphere is amazing and is very professionally orientated. There is constant reminder that each person is part of something bigger, with an emphasis on no matter what you’re doing your learning, having fun and becoming a better person. The fact that the director and owner Jason Gittinger built it all by hand gives you a sense of even more pride and possibilities.

In just the few months that my son has been there I cant express how far he has come musically and his gain of a deeper respect for music theory not just the dream of being a rock and roll star.

We are set to give our first performance this weekend and im totally ready to rock out with my son up on stage! I’m not sure who’s more excited, but without the DSRP it never would have happened… So thank you Jason for fulfilling your dream to enrich the lives of kids and adults alike with music! - Monica D.

PATTI A. – “She had been taking guitar lessons at another music store and nothing compares to the experience she is having at the DSRP.”

Our daughter Nicole (age 14) started at the Detroit School of Rock and Pop in the Summer Rocks program. She had been taking guitar lessons at another music store and nothing compares to the experience she is having at the DSRP. Jason, Sherry and the instructors are so fun and enthusiastic and get the kids involved in every aspect of their learning experience. They have been in shows, parades, events and still more to come! She (we) love it! – Patti A.

MELANIE F. – “Not all kids fit in to the world of sports or classical violin. Some kids walk through life to a different beat…”

“Not all kids fit in to the world of sports or classical violin.  Some kids walk through life to a different beat.  Finally there is a music school that addresses the interests of these children.  At the DSRP, kids of all ages learn how to make decisions in a group, how to make a commitment and, most importantly, they learn their own personal value…oh yeah, they learn music too!  Rock on.” – Melanie F.

VICKIE M. – “The Detroit School of Rock and Pop has been a Godsend for my son, Dan (age 13)… “

“The Detroit School of Rock and Pop has been a Godsend for my son, Dan (age 13). Jason and his instructors are able to see not only Dan’s talent and drive but also his future potential and they take the time to figure out what steps need to happen to get Dan there. When Dan leaves his private lesson with Brian Lord he is so excited about what he has learned and can’t wait for more.

Before coming to the Detroit School of Rock and Pop, Dan wasn’t sure what he wanted to do in life.  Now he is mapping out his future and talking about which college he will attend and what he needs to do to get there.

The band experience is priceless. Dan is learning how play with other musicians in a band and to take direction from the band leaders.  He has made a lot of new friends and has had wonderful, exciting opportunities already. He loves every minute of it!

It’s great for parents too!  Everyone makes us feel so welcome.
We drive a long way to attend the Detroit School of Rock and Pop and it is worth every mile.” – VICKIE M.

SUSAN M. – “The Detroit School of Rock and Pop has only been open for about six months and they are already second to none…”

“The Detroit School of Rock and Pop has only been open for about six months and they are already second to none.  Not only do they provide the best in one-on-one instruction with music industry pros, they provide their students with the full rock experience.  My 13-year-old daughter has been enrolled at the Detroit School of Rock and Pop for just a few months and she has already performed live at Memphis Smoke and the Palace of Auburn Hills!!!  No other “music school” in the area can generate these incredible opportunities for its students.  Jason Gittinger and his staff have far exceeded my expectations.  Long live DSRP!”   – Susan M.
