“MISSION: To promote the pursuit of a life of excellence with others in music and the arts through tuition assistance programs, equipment donation programs to motivated and talented students in need, and awareness campaigns.”

The Live the Music Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing music education to students of all backgrounds and diversities. In its capacity as a public charity, the Foundation operates in affiliation with, but separately from, The Detroit School of Rock and Pop Music. The Foundation believes that learning starts from one’s pursuit of excellence in one discipline and grows from there for a lifetime. Music, for some, is that discipline and the Foundation exists to help those people.

The Live the Music Foundation provides a unique service in its efforts to improve the current state of education. The Foundation works directly to help subsidize the tuition of motivated and talented music students who lack the resources, funding, or support to pursue their dreams. The Foundation provides scholarships for tuition and music equipment for those in need to help those students who possess passion and a drive for excellence in music. It is our belief that by providing instruments and tuition, our contribution will be used for its intended purpose: to further the pursuit of excellence through music and the arts.

WHAT DOES THE LIVE THE MUSIC FOUNDATION DO?

The Live the Music Foundation provides tuition assistance for students of The Detroit School of Rock and Pop Music who could not otherwise be able to attend. When necessary, if a student in need also has a need for equipment to be able to pursue that education the Foundation purchases or arranges for equipment to be made available to them. The Foundation also conducts awareness campaigns through the sponsorship of music concerts throughout the community, musical instrument drives and fundraising events.

WHY THE NEED FOR THE LIVE THE MUSIC FOUNDATION?

Music education programs and opportunities to see live music have eroded in many cities and communities across the country over the past 30 years. The Live the Music Foundation is dedicated to turning back this trend to ensure people have access to a life that includes music.

WHY MUST ANY COMPLETE EDUCATION INCLUDE THE STUDY OF MUSIC?

Research has shown that musical study develops critical thinking and self discipline skills and improves a one’s early cognitive development, basic math and reading abilities, self-esteem, SAT scores, ability to work in teams, spatial reasoning skills, and school attendance. Also, researchers have found that students involved with
music education are more likely to graduate from high school and attend college, and are less likely to be involved with gangs and substance abuse.

HOW DOES THE LIVE THE MUSIC FOUNDATION WORK?

The Live the Music Foundation works with our partners at The Detroit School of Rock and Pop Music to select eligible participants in need to receive tuition assistance or equipment. In order to be eligible to receive a grant of musical instruments or tuition assistance the student must first be accepted to their program, show motivation to work hard in their studies, and show significant financial need.
