Photo provided Have a festive fall October activities embrace change in season By Jennifer Sakey It’s official. Fall has arrived — complete with changing colors, cooler temperatures, shorter days, and of course, an array of festivals that celebrate the season. Here’s a sampling of some of the events happening this month in metro Detroit: ROYAL OAK The Detroit Zoo will hold its third annual Fall Festival from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 3-4, with all activities taking place in the zoo’s Main Picnic Grove. The event will feature performances by students and faculty from the Detroit School of Rock and Pop Music; seasonal food and drinks, such as Polish sausage, bratwurst, apple strudel, caramel apples and beer; and a children’s activity area that includes games, arts and crafts, pumpkin painting, a straw maze and an inflatable slide. Admission to the children’s activity area is $5 per child in addition to regular zoo admission. Visitors can also take a hayride for $2 per adult and $1 per child. Zoo admission is $11 for adults 15 to 61, $9 for senior citizens 62 and older, and $7 for children ages 2 to 14. Admission is free for children younger than 2. For more information, call (248) 541-5717, ext. 3750, or visit www.detroitzoo.org.
