STUDENT BAND PROGRAM
TEENAGE BANDS – 13-18 Year Olds
The Detroit School of Rock and Pop Music® Student Band Program is for the teenagers in our school. The students grow in personal skills and musical abilities through shared group experiences with their bandmates. This is not a “cattle call” rehearsal with 40 people where you might get to play. Our bands are small and provide a ton of exciting performance and recording experiences each year.

JAZZ BAND PROGRAM
SMALL GROUP JAZZ BANDS – 13 Years Old and Above
The Detroit School of Rock and Pop Music® is proud to offer their Jazz Band Program. Utilizing their unique ability to provide meaningful mentorship and instruction combined with unparalleled real-world performance experiences.
The program consists of weekly rehearsals, recording opportunities, concerts, events, and even their own television and video specials. Small group jazz ensemble training is the focus, with an emphasis on developing improvisation skills. Students also have opportunities to compose their own material and premiere their works at concerts.
“People see our logo and think that we are all tattoo’d rock and roll guitar players, but actually my personal training was in Jazz Studies,” says school founder Jason Gittinger. “We have tons of talent and experience here on our staff that goes beyond rock and pop music. This program was our next logical step to continue to provide the best music training in the region.”

INDEPENDENT STRINGS PROGRAM
CLASSICAL STRING ENSEMBLES THAT ROCK
Jam and create like a jazz or rock musician.
The Detroit School of Rock and Pop Music® is proud to offer their cutting edge training for historically classical music instruments, the Independent Strings Program. Utilizing their unique ability to provide meaningful mentorship and instruction combined with unparalleled real-world performance experiences.
The program consists of weekly rehearsals, recording opportunities, concerts, events, and even their own television and video specials. Small group string ensemble training is the focus, with an emphasis on developing improvisation and composition skills. Students have opportunities to compose and arrange their own material and premiere their works at concerts.
“Often classical musicians who have graduated from their school music programs find themselves lost in modern music ensembles because they are lacking confidence and competence in jamming or improvising. The Independent Strings Program seeks to help those students and adults who have moved on from educational music programs but don’t want to stop performing. We equip them with the skills and experience to make-up their own parts, play over chord changes, play in different musical styles, and perform with non-classical musicians like singer-songwriters or rock/pop/jazz musicians.”
