INDEPENDENT STRINGS PROGRAM
CLASSICAL STRING ENSEMBLES THAT ROCK
Jam and create like a jazz or rock musician.
The Detroit School of Rock and Pop Music® is proud to offer their cutting edge training for historically classical music instruments, the Independent Strings Program. Utilizing their unique ability to provide meaningful mentorship and instruction combined with unparalleled real-world performance experiences.
The program consists of weekly rehearsals, recording opportunities, concerts, events, and even their own television and video specials. Small group string ensemble training is the focus, with an emphasis on developing improvisation and composition skills. Students have opportunities to compose and arrange their own material and premiere their works at concerts.
“Often classical musicians who have graduated from their school music programs find themselves lost in modern music ensembles because they are lacking confidence and competence in jamming or improvising. The Independent Strings Program seeks to help those students and adults who have moved on from educational music programs but don’t want to stop performing. We equip them with the skills and experience to make-up their own parts, play over chord changes, play in different musical styles, and perform with non-classical musicians like singer-songwriters or rock/pop/jazz musicians.”
Program Description:
Students attend 1/2 hour weekly lessons to learn technical skills necessary on their instruments to perform the music they’ve chosen. Weekly two-hour rehearsals are where the experienced DSRP staff help to put everyone together and hone things into a polished live performance or recording project. More info is included in the frequently asked questions below.
